A good start.
We need earth: but not just topsoil. Proper clay-like subsoil, which is more difficult to obtain. We thought about calling Mark at Ionic (lime-mortar / plaster and biomaterial guru) but it's quite a trek to his place.
And, as renowned straw-bale construction pioneer Barbara Jones told me over the phone, 'what's the point of driving so far out to collect these materials?' - it would clearly negate the environmental advantages of using them!
...so we've started looking closer to home...
